Gabonese authorities prioritize acceleration of AfDB development initiatives
The government is taking decisive steps to tighten the oversight of projects financed by the African Development Bank (AfDB) to ensure more rapid completion. On Monday, June 29, 2026, Vice President Hermann Immongault led a strategic working session with an AfDB delegation headed by Country Manager Mamour Ousmane Ba. This meeting, which included Planning Minister Louise Mvono and Agriculture Minister Pacôme Kossy, follows recent discussions in Brazzaville between the Head of State and the President of the AfDB. The primary goal is to assess current progress and eliminate bottlenecks hindering project implementation.
Hermann Immongault emphasized the necessity of rigorous tracking for every initiative within the AfDB portfolio. The executive branch maintains that resources acquired through debt must yield visible improvements for the population, aligning with the National Growth and Development Plan. The Vice President stressed the importance of transparency, performance, and strict adherence to timelines, noting that all stakeholders must take full responsibility to maximize the impact of public investments.
Action plan to resolve infrastructure delays
During the delegation’s visit to Libreville, the government established a targeted action plan to address projects facing significant delays. Two major infrastructure works are under intense scrutiny: the Integrated Drinking Water Supply and Sanitation Program for Libreville (PIAEPAL) and the Ndendé–Doussala road. Regarding the latter, Hermann Immongault conveyed the President’s frustration with the slow pace of construction and called for immediate corrective measures. Additionally, the government has reviewed its internal processes to improve coordination with its financial partner.
Mamour Ousmane Ba commended the reforms initiated by the Gabonese authorities and reiterated the African Development Bank’s commitment to supporting national priorities. He highlighted the New African Financial Architecture for Development (NAFAD), designed to boost investment efficiency across the continent. With a portfolio spanning water supply, vocational training, agriculture, and road infrastructure, the AfDB remains a key partner in Gabon‘s development journey.
