Former Côte d’Ivoire President Laurent Gbagbo has announced a strategic shift in the leadership of the Parti des Peuples Africains-Côte d’Ivoire (PPA-CI) by delegating portions of his presidential authority to five key political figures. This move marks a significant evolution in the party’s governance structure, aiming to foster a more collaborative and unified decision-making process.
The decision was formalized in an official statement released by the PPA-CI, outlining the new roles and responsibilities assigned to the designated leaders. According to the communiqué signed by Laurent Gbagbo himself, Assoa Adou has been appointed as the party’s first vice-president, entrusted with overseeing adherence to the party’s statutes and internal regulations across all organs and members.
Hubert Oulaye, meanwhile, has been named second vice-president, tasked with managing the party’s operational life and presiding over meetings of the central committee.
The restructuring also includes the appointment of Dano Djédjé Sébastien as president of the strategic and political council. His responsibilities will encompass the general direction and supervision of the party’s activities, ensuring alignment with the PPA-CI’s long-term vision.
Speaking on the rationale behind this delegation, Laurent Gbagbo emphasized the importance of collective leadership in strengthening the party’s resilience and effectiveness. He stated, “This distribution of powers reflects our commitment to a more inclusive and complementary governance model. The strength of our party lies not in the authority of a single individual but in the unity and collaboration of our leaders and activists.”
He further underscored the necessity of unity, discipline, and synergy among party members to overcome challenges and serve the Ivorian people more effectively. “Together, we can rise to meet every challenge. Through unity and coordinated action, the PPA-CI will not only endure adversity but also fulfill its mission to the nation.”
