Ousmane Sonko used his investiture rally at Dakar Arena this Sunday to address the upcoming local elections, delivering a clear warning against any potential postponement.
Speaking before a large crowd of PASTEF members and senior party officials, the party leader stated unequivocally that his political movement would not support any move to delay the vote. “PASTEF will not agree to a postponement of the local elections. We are ready,” he declared, drawing cheers from his supporters.
Continuing his speech, Sonko stressed that any delay must strictly follow the institutional procedures set by law. “A postponement of elections in Senegal is only possible if it goes through the National Assembly,” he affirmed, urging those responsible to take the necessary steps to hold the election.
The PASTEF leader also appeared to respond to speculation about the electoral timetable. “Let the president sign the decree; slowness will not save anyone,” he said.
