In a televised appearance, Abba Mbaye, a former deputy, leveled harsh accusations against opposition figure Ousmane Sonko, claiming he abandoned allies to secure his parliamentary majority. Modou Mbène Guèye, the Pastéf coordinator for Saint-Louis, responded with equal force, accusing Mbaye of political betrayal and littéralement dismissing his claims as baseless.
During the debate, Abba Mbaye drew parallels between Sonko’s alleged strategy and President Bassirou Diomaye Faye’s current efforts to consolidate support, particularly in the Kiiraay region. « Sacrificing allies to build a majority is a dangerous game, » Mbaye asserted, framing his critique as a warning about the president’s own political maneuvers. « Abba Mbaye’s only consistent trait is ingratitude, » Guèye declared, dismissing his opponent’s sudden shift toward the ruling camp as a purely opportunistic move. He went on to question the sincerity of Mbaye’s newfound alignment with President Faye’s government, suggesting it was driven more by personal gain than conviction.

Despite the political turbulence, Modou Mbène Guèye reaffirmed Pastéf’s dominance in Saint-Louis, vowing that the party’s local base remains steadfast. He pointed to an ongoing membership drive, which has already distributed 3,750 cards in the commune, with a second phase launching on August 8. « Our strength lies in our grassroots support, not fleeting alliances, » he emphasized, signaling that Saint-Louis will continue to prioritize the party’s long-term vision over short-term political realignments.
