As the National Assembly convened its first extraordinary session of the 2026-2027 legislative year on August 10, parliamentary leader Ousmane Sonko preemptively addressed doubts about the validity of six proposed probe committees, several of which involve highly sensitive issues.

In a statement to deputies, he underscored the legal framework governing such initiatives, stating: « Current legislation explicitly prohibits the National Assembly from establishing a parliamentary probe committee for cases already under judicial review. » He confirmed this interpretation was personally verified with the Minister of Justice, adding: « Upon my inquiry last week, the Ministry confirmed that out of the five relevant cases, only one related to land management near Dakar’s former airport remains outside judicial scrutiny. »

This clarification follows the assembly’s agenda, which includes examining eleven legislative texts over a fifteen-day session, as mandated by organic law no. 2025-11 of August 18, 2025. The proposals cover a range of topics, including:

• The ‘One Student, One Laptop’ program
• Revenue losses and tax exemptions
• Fishing license issuance conditions
