Ousmane Sonko, President of Senegal’s National Assembly, conveyed deep sorrow upon learning of the passing of Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké, the spiritual leader of the Khassim Mbacké family in Guinguinéo, on Thursday, July 9, 2026.

In a heartfelt message shared on social media, he paid tribute to the revered religious figure and extended his condolences to the deceased’s family, the Grand Khalife of the Mouride Brotherhood, and the entire Senegalese people.

« It is with profound grief and sorrow that I learned of the passing of Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké,» Sonko wrote. He also reflected on their past encounters during his visits to Guinguinéo, recalling the warmth, kindness, and hospitality he experienced during their meetings.

« Each interaction left a lasting impression, marked by his generosity and unwavering support, especially during my visits to Guinguinéo,» Sonko shared.

During this « trying time, » he offered his « heartfelt condolences » to the family, the Mouride community, and all Senegalese citizens. His message concluded with a prayer for divine mercy: « May God, in His boundless compassion, grant him forgiveness and welcome him into eternal paradise. »
