In a move driven by reciprocity, Taiwan has temporarily suspended the processing of visa applications submitted by Moroccan nationals. This decision follows reports indicating that Morocco has halted the issuance of visa confirmation letters for Taiwanese travelers across all diplomatic missions globally.
According to official statements, the Moroccan embassy in Japan recently notified Taiwanese travel agencies about the suspension of visa-related procedures. Furthermore, it has been confirmed that the Moroccan government instructed its embassies and consulates worldwide to cease processing such requests, significantly disrupting travel and bilateral exchanges between the two regions.
As a direct response, Taiwan announced the suspension of visa applications for Moroccan citizens, effective immediately, with exceptions made only for cases requiring special authorization. The relevant authorities have urged Morocco to reinstate practical travel arrangements and emphasized that they will continue to assess Moroccan visa policies before considering any adjustments to their own measures.
Background note: Morocco does not officially recognize Taiwan, adhering to the principle of a «single China» and maintaining formal diplomatic ties exclusively with the People’s Republic of China. Consequently, Rabat and Taipei do not share official diplomatic relations.
