As security challenges intensify across the Sahel, Tchad and Burkina Faso have taken a decisive step to reinforce their joint defense strategy. On Thursday, high-level discussions in Ouagadougou marked the beginning of a strengthened partnership aimed at countering insurgent threats.

Leading the Tchadian delegation was Commissioner Mahamat Ibrahim Man Man, head of the Public Security and Immigration Ministry. The delegation was received by Burkina Faso’s Minister of Security, Mahamadou Sana, the day before the joint announcement.

During the talks, both sides explored ways to deepen collaboration in counterterrorism operations, according to an official statement from the Tchadian government. The discussions set the stage for upcoming bilateral frameworks designed to address the shared security crisis.

Mbaï-Naïssem Isaac Chamir, Legal Advisor to the Tchadian Minister of Public Security and member of the delegation, described the meeting as a preparatory step toward a major joint commission focused on combating terrorism together. He emphasized that the initiative reflects both nations’ commitment to leveraging their shared history and operational experience to build a more effective defense framework.

The Tchadian official praised the warm reception and underscored the need for a robust, sustainable, and mutually beneficial security partnership—one that fully respects each country’s sovereignty. He expressed confidence that the momentum gained in Ouagadougou would lead to tangible progress in upcoming bilateral negotiations.

The joint statement confirmed that this strengthened cooperation will continue through scheduled bilateral mechanisms, particularly the upcoming joint commission tasked with expanding collaborative efforts between Tchad and Burkina Faso.
