A direct and overt information conflict is currently unfolding between France and Russia across the African continent. This dimension of hybrid warfare, spearheaded by Moscow subsequent to its 2018 intervention in the Central African Republic, is designed to weaken French influence and displace Paris from its long-standing African positions. Russia aims to achieve this strategic advantage by manipulating and leveraging local public opinion. After a delayed recognition of this strategy, which Russia has been employing in various operational theaters since at least 2014, French authorities are now actively striving to counter these assertive moves.
