The President of the Council, Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, received on Friday a special envoy from the President of Chad, Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, in Lomé. The focus was on strengthening bilateral cooperation, African integration, and the upcoming Forum on Water.

The President of the Council, Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, granted an audience to Fatime Aldjineh Garfa, a deputy minister at the Chadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Carrying a message from Chad’s president, Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, the envoy reaffirmed both countries’ commitment to solidifying their bilateral cooperation. Discussions also centered on the challenges of African integration and water development cooperation.

‘We bring a personal message from the President of the Republic, Head of State, the Marshal Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, to the President of the Council of the Republic, His Excellency Mr. Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé. We have also transmitted an official invitation from Chad’s president to the Forum on Water, scheduled for July 15-16, 2026 in N’Djamena,’ said Mme Fatime Aldjineh Garfa.

Scheduled for July 15-16, 2026 in the Chadian capital, the Forum on Water falls within the dynamic of the Union African’s Agenda 2063. It will bring together African leaders and technical and financial partners around investment issues related to hydraulics infrastructure across the continent.

Through this visit, Lomé and N’Djamena reaffirm their commitment to strengthening their political partnership and promoting joint initiatives in favor of Africa’s development and integration.
