Algeria strengthens Niger defense ties with military donation

In direct alignment with the directives issued by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and National Defense Minister, General Saïd Chanegriha, Deputy Defense Minister and Chief of Staff of Algeria’s National People’s Army (ANP), has authorized the transfer of a strategic military aid package to Niger.

This donation includes four helicopters—two Mi-24V attack helicopters and two Mi-171 utility helicopters—along with essential ammunition, spare parts, logistical support equipment, and maintenance tools. The transfer was executed in two phases: the helicopters departed from Algeria’s In Gezzam secondary deployment base in the Sixth Military Region, while the associated equipment was airlifted via a military transport aircraft to Niamey International Airport.

Speaking through an official statement, Algeria’s Ministry of National Defense highlighted that this initiative underscores the deep historical and fraternal ties between Algeria and Niger. It also reaffirms Algeria’s unwavering commitment to bolstering regional security and stability through collaborative defense efforts, technical exchange, and multifaceted support.

The statement emphasized that this gesture is part of a broader Algerian strategy aimed at strengthening bilateral partnerships and fostering collective action with neighboring countries to address shared security challenges in the Sahel region.
