Chad has taken a significant step forward in addressing urban climate challenges by securing a spot as the 11th eligible country for the Building Climate Resilience of Urban Populations (BCRUP) initiative under the United Nations Green Climate Fund.

The announcement came during the World Urban Forum in Baku, where the Chadian delegation, led by Minister Mahamat Assileck Halata, engaged in high-level discussions with the Executive Director of UN-Habitat. These talks focused on urban resilience strategies and potential collaborations to tackle pressing issues such as flooding, population displacement, and climate-related disruptions in Chadian cities.

A concrete outcome of these exchanges was the approval of an initial project proposal, with funding ranging from $900,000 to $1 million. This milestone paves the way for additional financial support from UN-Habitat in the coming months, reinforcing Chad’s commitment to sustainable urban development.
