Chad has been chosen as the guest of honor for the military and civilian parade marking the 54th edition of Cameroon’s National Day, set to take place on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, in Yaoundé and across all regions of the country.

Known as the Fête de l’Unité (Unity Day), this annual celebration honors national cohesion in Cameroon and stands as one of the country’s most significant institutional and patriotic events. For the 2026 edition, the theme selected by Cameroonian authorities is “National unity: the foundation of our defense and the cornerstone of Cameroon’s development”.

The main event in Yaoundé will feature a grand parade showcasing the defense and security forces, educational institutions, youth organizations, and various segments of Cameroonian society. Similar celebrations will unfold in cities and towns nationwide, ensuring wide participation.

The Cameroonian Ministry of Youth has introduced several fresh initiatives for this milestone edition. Highlights include a nationwide carnival celebrating cultural diversity and a week-long decentralization of festivities to bring the celebrations closer to local communities.
