President Laurent Gbagbo has announced a strategic restructuring of the leadership team within the Parti pour le Peuple Africain-Côte d’Ivoire (PPA-CI), appointing five high-profile figures to key positions.
Five new leaders take charge at PPA-CI
The reshuffle, which departs from Gbagbo’s earlier announcement of delegating authority to a single individual, now distributes responsibilities among a collective leadership. Each appointee brings a distinct portfolio to enhance the party’s operational efficiency and policy alignment.
Assoa Adou has been named first vice-president, tasked with upholding the party’s ideological framework and ensuring strict adherence to its principles. Hubert Oulaye, the second vice-president, will oversee party affairs and chair central committee meetings, while Emmanuel Ackah, a former ambassador, will lead the party’s public engagement and mobilization efforts as third vice-president.
Justin Katinan Koné retains his role in managing the party’s overall policy direction, ensuring continuity in strategic decision-making. Meanwhile, Sébastien Dano Djédjé has been appointed head of the Strategic and Political Council, responsible for overseeing high-level policy formulation and implementation.
A shift toward collective governance
Gbagbo framed the restructuring as a move toward a “more collegial leadership model”, emphasizing the importance of “complementary roles and unified action” in advancing the party’s agenda. The president described the changes as a deliberate step to reinforce internal cohesion while maintaining a clear chain of command.
Analysts weigh in on the leadership transition
Political observer Abdourahmane Barry suggested that the reshuffle does not signal a fundamental shift in the party’s power structure. In his assessment, while the five appointees will handle day-to-day operations, “the core leadership and decision-making authority remain firmly with Laurent Gbagbo.”
