Côte d’Ivoire launches digital push with PNUD and Orange partnership

Abidjan — A landmark agreement has been struck to fast-track digital inclusion and youth empowerment across Côte d’Ivoire. The United Nations Development Programme (PNUD) and Orange Côte d’Ivoire formalized a strategic partnership this week, pledging joint action to bridge digital divides and foster sustainable growth through innovative digital solutions.

The pact, sealed in Abidjan on May 21, 2026, reflects a shared vision of leveraging digital transformation to reduce inequalities and empower young Ivorians—especially young women—by equipping them with essential digital skills and fostering entrepreneurship.

Under the agreement, both organizations will roll out targeted training programs focused on digital competencies, provide support to startups and entrepreneurship hubs, and expand digital initiatives into rural and underserved communities. Central to the initiative is the Orange Digital Center, a dedicated space designed to nurture young tech talent and guide budding entrepreneurs through mentorship and resources.

Blerta Cela, the PNUD’s Resident Representative in Côte d’Ivoire, emphasized the significance of the collaboration: “This partnership marks a major milestone in accelerating digital inclusion and youth entrepreneurship. By uniting private-sector expertise with international support, we are laying the groundwork for a more equitable and sustainable future.”

Mamadou Bamba, CEO of Orange Côte d’Ivoire, underscored the company’s commitment to empowering youth and vulnerable groups through concrete opportunities in the digital economy. “We are determined to create pathways for young people to thrive in the digital age,” he stated.

The partners aim to elevate Côte d’Ivoire’s standing in the global digital economy by aligning their efforts with the National Development Plan (PND) and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (ODD).
