The communiqué emphasized that the ultimate target of this alleged scheme is Sonko himself, referred to as the guiding force behind the nation’s progress.
Aligning with Sonko’s Vision
The decision reflects a shared assessment of the political landscape, mirroring the rhetoric Sonko has used in recent doctrinal speeches. During the Diamniadio congress, he introduced the concept of a ‘popular bloc’, arguing that while citizens may seize power, sustaining systemic change remains a far greater challenge. The CODES now fully endorses this perspective, framing the preservation of the project as a national priority.
A Call for National Mobilization
In response to the perceived risks, the movement is rallying its supporters and urging all citizens to unite behind Sonko. The statement calls on the youth and broader population to stand firm in defense of the project, while also extending an appeal to democratic forces to rejoin Pastef-Les Patriotes by the thousands. The goal, it stresses, is to ensure the project’s success through mass solidarity.
This push for unity comes at a time when Sonko has intensified his mobilization efforts across the country ahead of upcoming elections. His recent visit to Mbacké underscored the need for local leaders to set aside internal divisions, particularly in preparation for the 2029 presidential race. The merger with CODES contrasts sharply with recent defections within Pastef, where several members have abandoned the party to align with the president’s agenda, highlighting the deepening political divisions gripping Senegal.
