The Algerian Prime Minister, Sifi Ghrieb, landed in Niamey on Wednesday for an official visit centered on deepening cooperation between Algeria and Niger. Ordered by Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the trip underscores the two nations’ commitment to strengthening ties across key sectors.

Accompanying Ghrieb were Algeria’s Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies, along with the Director-General of the Algerian Agency for International Cooperation and Development. The delegation’s arrival signals a new chapter in bilateral relations, with both sides aiming to expand collaboration in mutually beneficial areas.

During initial discussions, the Prime Ministers reviewed the current state of Algeria-Niger relations and explored ways to enhance cooperation. The talks focused on accelerating joint development projects and fostering new partnerships between Algiers and Niamey. A central theme of the meeting was the potential for energy initiatives to serve as a catalyst for broader economic and infrastructural growth.

The highlight of the visit was the inauguration of a 40-megawatt power plant in Niamey’s Gorou Banda district. Funded entirely by Algeria as part of its commitment to Niger’s energy infrastructure, the facility represents a tangible step toward improving electricity supply in the capital and surrounding areas. The project reflects Algiers’ broader dedication to fostering stability and development in the Sahel region.

Beyond the energy milestone, the agenda included a private meeting between the Algerian Prime Minister and Niger’s President. This session provided an opportunity to assess future collaboration opportunities and address regional and international issues of mutual interest.

The visit follows a period of heightened political and economic exchanges between Algeria and Niger, as both countries prioritize stronger ties to benefit their populations. By leveraging shared resources and strategic partnerships, Algiers and Niamey are positioning themselves to tackle common challenges and seize new opportunities.
